In commemoration of World Environment Day, 23 students together with Ms Sahadeo and Ms Ramlogan of the Waterloo Secondary School 4-H Eco Explorers club stepped out of the classroom and into nature, participating in a clean-up and tree restoration project at the Palmiste National Park. This proactive initiative provided immense benefits to both the students and the local environment. The field trip served as a powerful, hands-on lesson connecting ecological health to agricultural stability, cultivating valuable team-building, leadership, and civic responsibility skills outside school walls. Simultaneously, the environment received a crucial boost: clearing debris and restoring trees directly enhanced the national park’s local biodiversity and improved the health of the surrounding ecosystem. By revitalizing this green space, the 4-H Eco Explorers beautifully demonstrated that ensuring long-term food safety and security begins with protecting, respecting, and nurturing the natural ecosystems that sustain us all.
